Artvin Atabarı Ski Center Experiences High Demand for Basic Ski Training Course During Winter Break

It is currently hosting a basic ski training course for students aged between 6-14 during the winter break. The course, organized jointly by the Artvin Youth Services and Sports Directorate and Artvin Çoruh University, has attracted significant interest from students. The training, conducted by Artvin Çoruh University Ski Coach and Instructor Fikri Özkan, teaches students how to use skiing equipment. Talented individuals are identified during the training and provided with advanced level education to become professional skiers. Located 16 kilometers away from the city center, Atabarı Ski Center offers three separate pistes with a total length of 1,300 meters. Surrounded by pine, fir, and larch trees, the ski center provides a magnificent view and high-quality snow for ski enthusiasts.
Artvin Çoruh University Ski Coach and Instructor Fikri Özkan emphasized the importance of these basic ski training courses during the traditional winter break in order to identify talented young skiers. He stated, “We have approximately 25 students. We divided them into two groups, alternating between them every other day. By providing full-day training and breaks for rest and lunch, we complete our courses in four consecutive days. The course focuses solely on basic ski training. We also have children who are already advanced level athletes, and they continue their club and individual training under the guidance of our ski coach Yunus. This allows us to select talented children for further development.”
Bora Aydın, a 6-year-old participant in the ski course, mentioned that he used to sled before but now, after just two days of training, he is able to ski on his own with ski equipment. Elif Sena Kul, a 12-year-old participant, said, “I am attending the ski course organized by the Youth and Sports Directorate during the winter break. I was able to ski here last year, and now I can ski from the top. I would like to thank my instructors.”
