Because GAD is often chronic, care plans emphasize relapse prevention: ongoing maintenance therapy, booster CBT sessions, and monitoring for recurrence during major life transitions.
Prognosis varies with comorbidity burden, treatment adherence, and early intervention. Many patients achieve meaningful symptom reduction and improved functioning, but residual worry and sleep disruption can persist without targeted follow-up.
