Prognosis varies by disorder and treatment engagement. Early recognition, targeted CBT, and appropriate pharmacotherapy improve outcomes. Persistent avoidance or untreated comorbidity (e.g., depression, substance use disorders) can worsen course. Safety assessment is important: while anxiety disorders are not primarily suicidal illnesses, severe distress and comorbid depression can increase risk.
