The Disturbing Incident

In a shocking turn of events in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a mother is left horrified after her 17-year-old daughter received a threatening and racist note following a road rage incident on her way to school. The teenager, who remains unnamed out of fear, was driving to Brusly High School when the confrontation occurred.

The Road Rage Incident

The altercation began when the teenager accidentally cut in front of another driver, identified as 40-year-old Sarah Averette, who has a child attending the same high school. Averette allegedly followed the 17-year-old to the school, circled the student parking lot, and left the disturbing note on the young girl’s car.

The Threatening Note

The note, filled with expletives and ending with a racial slur, read, “ATTENTION B—-, I KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND I WILL F—— FIND YOU AND F— UP YOUR CAR WHEN YOU DON’T EXPECT IT. LEARN HOW TO F—— DRIVE.” The teenager was completely unaware of the incident until her friends discovered the note and reported it to the school’s front office.

Response and Consequences

Following the incident, Averette was banned from school property indefinitely by the West Baton Rouge Parish School System. The victim’s mother, Jasmine Mills, expressed her disgust at the extreme actions taken by a grown woman against an underage girl. She highlighted the prevalence of racism in today’s society, even in 2024.

Law Enforcement Involvement

Deputies from the West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office intervened in the situation, utilizing surveillance video from the school and license plate readers on the highway to track down Averette. She was subsequently charged with criminal mischief. However, Mills believes that more severe consequences should be imposed for the threatening behaviour.

Apology and Reconciliation

Despite the charges, Averette’s attorney issued a statement on her behalf, expressing remorse and seeking forgiveness for the hurtful words written in anger. However, Mills remains unconvinced, stating that a simple apology does not erase the trauma inflicted upon her daughter.

Final Thoughts

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by African Americans in the face of racism. Mills emphasised the need for greater accountability and consequences for such reprehensible actions. The community stands in solidarity with the victim and her family as they navigate the aftermath of this disturbing incident..
