Myanmar National Dies Following Brawl at Watermelon Farm in Baling
A tragic incident unfolded at a watermelon farm in Kuala Ketil near Baling, where a Myanmar national lost his life after a brawl with a compatriot. The deceased has been identified as Kyuk Sikay, a 36-year-old worker at the farm. His fellow worker, who was involved in the altercation, sustained injuries and fled the scene.
The farm manager received a voice message on the night of the incident via WhatsApp, alerting him about the brawl. However, no detailed information was provided at the time. It was only the next morning, around 7am, when the manager listened to the voice message and discovered the grim reality. He immediately contacted his workers and learned about the tragedy that had unfolded. One worker had lost his life, another was injured and had fled, and several other workers had also escaped. The manager wasted no time and promptly lodged a police report.
Investigations have since revealed that the altercation took place at the palm oil waste disposal area within the farm premises. Unfortunately, there were no surveillance cameras installed in that particular location. The lifeless body of Kyuk Sikay was discovered in a hole in the waste disposal area, approximately 500 meters away from the tents designated for the farm workers.
Upon conducting an initial examination of the victim’s body, it was discovered that he had sustained seven stab wounds to the front of his chest and one stab wound to the left rib area. Forensic investigations found no other external injuries, leading to the estimation that he had passed away within 24 hours. In order to track down the suspect, tracker dog units have been deployed.
The victim’s body has been sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Star for a post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Law enforcement agencies have mobilized teams to apprehend the suspect and have conducted inspections in surrounding areas and nearby health clinics to locate both the suspect and other workers who have fled.
This unfortunate incident has left the community in shock and mourning the loss of a valuable life. As investigations continue, authorities are committed to bringing the perpetrator to justice and ensuring the safety and security of everyone involved in the watermelon farm..
