Arrests Made in Statesville Drug Bust

Three individuals were arrested on Saturday, February 10, by the Statesville police Officers in relation to a drug bust. The suspects have been identified as 20-year-old Jalin Amir Elliott and 22-year-old Cortney Sirron Phifer, Jr., both from Winston-Salem, and 24-year-old Kasean Campanella Saddler from Harmony.

Elliott faces several charges including possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, felony maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance, and conspiracy to sell or deliver marijuana. Saddler has been charged with conspiracy to sell and deliver marijuana, while Phifer faces charges of conspiracy to sell and deliver marijuana.

The arrests were made after members of the Statesville Police Department’s Criminal Response Team conducted a traffic stop. The vehicle, a white 2023 GMC Acadia, had reportedly attempted to evade police officers, which raised suspicion. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside, giving them probable cause to conduct a search.

During the search, officers discovered illegal substances and firearms in the vehicle. A total of 846.5 grams (1.86 lbs) of marijuana, six oxycodone pills, $2,763 in cash, and two handguns were seized. The driver, Elliott, and passengers Phifer and Saddler were subsequently detained and searched.

Elliott was granted a $3,000 secured bond, while Saddler received a $1,500 secured bond. However, Phifer was unable to receive bond due to existing bond obligations from unrelated charges. Consequently, Phifer was detained without bond at the Iredell County Detention Center.

It is important to note that as of today, none of the suspects are listed as inmates in the Iredell County Detention Center. All three individuals are scheduled to appear in District Court on March 4.

This drug bust serves as another example of the diligent work carried out by the Statesville Police Department in their ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug activities in the area. The seizure of drugs and firearms undoubtedly contributes to preserving the safety and well-being of the community..
