The tight-knit community of Prince George’s County is reeling from the devastating news of the death of Andrew Carnell, a beloved local basketball star. Early Saturday morning, tragedy struck in the Temple Hills neighborhood, leaving residents in shock and mourning the loss of a talented athlete.
The suspect in this heartbreaking incident has been identified as Estep Kyler Jr., a 36-year-old resident of Largo. Kyler now faces charges of shooting and killing Carnell, who was 40 years old and hailed from Washington, D.C. This senseless act of violence has left the entire community grappling with grief.
On the morning of Saturday, February 10th, at approximately 4:05 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting on Iverson Street. During their search of the area, they discovered Kyler suffering from a gunshot wound. According to Kyler’s account, he had engaged in a fight with his friend Andrew Washington while sitting in a car in a parking lot on the 2400 block of Iverson Street.
Tragically, officers found Washington inside the vehicle, succumbing to multiple gunshot wounds. His life was cut short in a senseless act of violence that has left the community reeling with shock and sadness.
Initial investigations indicate that Kyler shot Washington during their altercation before turning the gun on himself. While Kyler is currently in custody at a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, he will soon face charges of first and second-degree murder, along with other related offenses. Once released from the hospital, Kyler will be transferred to the Department of Corrections.
