Local Basketball Star Fatally Shot in Temple Hills Neighborhood
The close-knit community of Prince George’s County is in mourning following the tragic death of a beloved local basketball star. Andrew Carnell, a 40-year-old Washington, D.C. native, was fatally shot in the early hours of Saturday morning in the Temple Hills neighborhood. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Estep Kyler Jr. of Largo, has been taken into custody and is facing charges of first and second-degree murder.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:05 a.m. when officers responded to reports of a shooting on Iverson Street. Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement discovered Kyler with a gunshot wound. He informed officers that he had been involved in a fight with his friend, Andrew Washington, while they were sitting in a parked car in the 2400 block of Iverson Street.
Tragically, officers found Washington inside the vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial investigations suggest that Kyler shot Washington during the altercation before turning the gun on himself.
Kyler is currently receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital, where he remains in police custody. Once he is released, he will be transferred to the Department of Corrections to face the charges against him.
