Franklin Woman Formally Charged with Murder in Urmeyville Shooting Tragedy
Alicia M. Haupt, a 33-year-old woman from Franklin, has been charged with murder and pointing a firearm, a Level 6 felony, following a fatal shooting incident in Urmeyville. The victim, 35-year-old Jacob Pascal Harville, lost his life on February 6 after sustaining gunshot wounds at his residence on the 3000 block of N. County Road 625 East.
According to officials from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Harville was initially treated at Franciscan Health Indianapolis but succumbed to his injuries the following day. Consequently, the charge against Haupt was elevated from attempted murder to murder.
Court documents that were unsealed on Monday revealed startling details about Haupt’s beliefs and motivations. She allegedly viewed Harville as “Satan” and claimed that his elimination was necessary to save the Earth.
The incident came to light through a 911 call made by a witness at 11:46 am on February 5. The caller reported that Haupt, who was identified as a family friend residing in the same house, had shot Harville in the head. After the shooting, Haupt fled the scene in Harville’s truck.
Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies apprehended Haupt as she was walking away from the stolen vehicle on Whiteland Road near County Road 575 East. During her detainment, Haupt made incriminating statements, admitting to the killing and reaffirming her belief that Harville was Satan.
Haupt’s erratic behavior and disturbing claims continued during subsequent interviews with law enforcement. She asked deputies to refer to her as Jesus, asserted her role as the creator of the Earth, and insisted that Harville posed a threat to humanity. Haupt even requested the removal of a Bible brought to her as a comfort item, stating her dislike for it.
When questioned about the gun used in the shooting, Haupt disclosed that it had jammed and she had discarded it while driving away. The weapon was identified as a Smith & Wesson .380 pistol.
Despite the tragic loss of life, Haupt displayed a lack of remorse. She justified her actions by asserting that she watched individuals like Harville from Heaven and believed she had protected others by eliminating him. Haupt expressed no regrets and claimed that Harville and his entire family were demons.
An initial hearing for Alicia M. Haupt is yet to be scheduled. The shocking circumstances surrounding this case have left the community reeling, as they grapple with the tragic loss of a life and the disturbing beliefs of the accused..
