In a recent development, Chairmen James Comer, Jim Jordan, and Jason Smith have written a letter to U.S. Attorney Merrick Garland, urging him to provide the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, the House Committee on the Judiciary, and the House Committee on Ways and Means with the transcript and any recordings of President Biden’s interview with the Special Counsel’s office. This interview focuses on his mishandling of classified documents.
The Chairmen are also seeking classified documents that were referenced in the Special Counsel’s report. These documents are related to a phone call between then-Vice President Biden and the then-Ukrainian prime minister in December 2015. This phone call took place during the time when Biden called for the firing of the Ukrainian prosecutor who was investigating Burisma, the Ukrainian energy holdings company where Hunter Biden had a position on the board.
The Committees have been investigating whether there are sufficient grounds to draft articles of impeachment against President Biden. They have been particularly focused on his mishandling of classified materials and his involvement in his family’s international business dealings.
The Department of Justice has previously refused to provide the Oversight Committee with information, citing the need to protect the integrity of Special Counsel Hur’s ongoing investigation. However, since Mr. Hur’s investigation, which included an interview with President Biden, has concluded, the Committees now require certain records relating to this investigation and report.

The Chairmen also highlighted President Biden’s remarks during a press conference on February 8, 2024, where he denied sharing classified information with his ghostwriter, Mark Zwonitzer, despite evidence to the contrary in Mr. Hur’s report. The Committees are now seeking the transcript and any other records of the interview conducted with President Biden, as well as documents and communications related to the interview with Zwonitzer.
Furthermore, the Committees are requesting documents identified as “A9” and “A10” in Appendix A of Mr. Hur’s report, which pertain to President Biden’s phone call with the Ukrainian Prime Minister in 2015. They are also seeking all communications between representatives of the Department of Justice, the Office of the Special Counsel, the Executive Office of the President, and President Biden’s personal counsel regarding Mr. Hur’s report.
The Committees have set a deadline of 5:00 p.m. on February 19, 2024, for the Department of Justice to produce this information. They have expressed their willingness to compel the production of these materials if necessary.
As the investigation into President Biden’s mishandling of classified documents continues, the Committees are determined to uncover the truth and ensure that justice is served..
