Police Head Constable Found Dead in Kanpur: Who was Khem Chandra?

In a tragic turn of events, a body was discovered in a nullah near Guptar Ghat in the Pheel Khana area of Kanpur on Friday. The deceased was identified as Khem Chandra, a 50-year-old police head constable hailing from the village of Larauni in the Mauranipur police station Bamhauri, Jhansi district. Khem Chandra was serving as a head constable at Kanpur’s Reserve Police Lines.

Details of the Incident

Khem Chandra had reportedly left his room around 4.30 pm on Thursday evening. Concern arose when he did not return to the Police Lines and was unreachable as his phone was switched off. His family members also failed to establish contact with him. Tragically, his lifeless body was discovered in a nullah near Guptar Ghat the following morning. Police found a uniform and a belt near the body, indicating foul play.

Suspected Cause of Death

According to police sources, Khem Chandra frequented a liquor shop located near the area where his body was found. A rickshaw-puller identified him and shared that he often dropped Khem Chandra from the liquor shop to the Police Lines. CCTV footage revealed his last movements heading towards the nullah near the shop. The police have launched a thorough investigation, including scrutinizing call details and questioning suspects.

Family Background

The deceased head constable’s son is a trainee sub-inspector posted in Meerut. This tragedy has left the family devastated and the police force in shock. DCP (East) Shrawan Kumar Singh confirmed that three teams have been formed to uncover the circumstances surrounding Khem Chandra’s untimely demise. “We are leaving no stone unturned in our investigation,” he stated.
