The Tragic Shooting Incident

Two men tragically lost their lives after a shooting at a car meetup in Prince George’s County, Maryland, on Thursday night. The incident took place around 11:45 p.m. in the parking lot of the Manokeek Village shopping center on Berry Road in Accokeek, as reported by the police.

The Victims

The two men who were fatally shot have been identified as 48-year-old Sheldon Proctor, a resident of Waldorf, and 55-year-old Patrick Savoy from Charlotte Hall. Sheldon Proctor, who was wheelchair-bound, was described by a relative named Elaine as a very sweet and adorable person who enjoyed attending car shows to relax and unwind.

A Heartbreaking Loss

Elaine expressed her devastation over the loss of Proctor, stating that he was a good guy who did not deserve such a tragic end. She left flowers at the scene of the shooting as a tribute to her beloved relative.

The Scene of the Crime

WTOP’s Kyle Cooper, who was present at the site the following morning, described a harrowing scene with a large bloodstain visible in the parking lot. The area was littered with abandoned camp chairs, cans, and trash, indicating the chaos that ensued as people scattered in fear during the shooting.

Community Shock

Residents and regular attendees of the car meetup gatherings expressed shock at the violence that unfolded that night. Many mentioned that these gatherings were usually peaceful, and such incidents were unprecedented in their community.

Appeal for Information

Authorities are offering a $25,000 reward for any information that could lead to the apprehension of the individuals responsible for the shooting. A third man was also wounded during the incident but managed to drive himself to the hospital for treatment.

Past Incidents and Legislative Action

This tragic shooting is not an isolated incident, as just last month, another individual was fatally shot at a car meetup in a different location. The escalation of violence in these gatherings prompted Maryland legislative leaders to pass a law aimed at cracking down on such activities, which came into effect on June 1.

Call for Justice

Family members, friends, and the community at large are calling for justice for the victims of these senseless acts of violence. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.

Continued Vigilance

As the community mourns the loss of two lives and grapples with the aftermath of the shooting, there is a renewed sense of vigilance and awareness regarding the safety of public gatherings. The impact of such incidents resonates deeply, highlighting the need for proactive measures to prevent further tragedies.
