Discovery of Human Remains at Former Home of Indiana Serial Killer Herb Baumeister

In a recent development at the former residence of Indiana serial killer Herb Baumeister, another set of human remains has been identified by the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office. The remains were originally recovered in 1996 at Fox Hollow Farm in Westfield, Indiana, and have now been identified as belonging to Jeffrey Jones.

Identification of Jeffrey Jones

Jeffrey Jones, a Fillmore resident, was reported missing in August 1993. Through an extensive forensic genetic genealogy investigation conducted by the coroner’s office and the FBI, Jones’ remains were positively identified. This marks the third person to have been identified from remains found on the farm, with Allen Livingston being identified last year.

Background on Fox Hollow Farm

Fox Hollow Farm was once the home of Herb Baumeister, an Indiana serial killer who is believed to have lured gay men to his property in the mid-80s and mid-90s before killing them and disposing of their bodies on the premises. The investigation into Baumeister began in 1996 when his 15-year-old son discovered bones on the family’s 18-acre estate. Baumeister passed away shortly after the discovery.

Challenges in the Investigation

The investigation into the human remains found at Fox Hollow Farm has been incredibly challenging due to the state in which many of the remains were discovered – burnt and crushed. Despite these obstacles, the team of law enforcement and forensic specialists working on the case remain dedicated to uncovering the truth. The FBI, Indiana State Police Laboratory, Dr. Krista Latham of the Biology & Anthropology Department at the University of Indianapolis, and DNA experts from Othram Laboratory have all played crucial roles in the investigation.

Unidentified DNA Profiles

More than 10,000 pieces of remains have been recovered at Fox Hollow Farm, including bones, fragments, and body parts. While Jeffrey Jones has now been identified, there are still four DNA profiles that remain unidentified. These profiles will be sent to the FBI for further genetic genealogy investigation, with the hope of bringing closure to the families of those still unidentified.
