GURNEE TRAFFIC CRASH LEAVES ONE DEAD

In a tragic turn of events, a serious traffic crash occurred on Saturday afternoon in Gurnee, resulting in the death of a passenger in the vehicle involved. Lake County Sheriff’s traffic crash investigators are currently looking into the incident, which they believe was caused by a driver mistakenly pressing the accelerator instead of the brake.

CRASH DETAILS UNFOLD

The crash took place around 2:15 p.m. on Stearns School Road near Fuller Road in Gurnee. Gurnee Police officers were called to the scene after a vehicle collided with a pole. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the same vehicle had been involved in another crash at Route 41 and Stearns School Road prior to the second incident.

DRIVER ERROR LEADS TO TRAGIC OUTCOME

The initial crash involved a Toyota Rav4 driven by an 88-year-old woman from Gurnee and a Kia Forte driven by a 20-year-old from Richmond. Both vehicles were attempting to make turns onto Stearns School Road when they collided. According to witnesses, the drivers made their turns after the traffic light had turned red, resulting in minor damage.

ACCELERATOR MISTAKE CAUSES FATALITY

Following the first collision, the driver of the Rav4 inadvertently pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to accelerate uncontrollably. The Rav4 eventually crashed into a utility pole near the intersection of Stearns School and Fuller Road. Tragically, the passenger in the Rav4, an 89-year-old man named Leonard Blum, succumbed to his injuries.

AUTOPSY REVEALS CAUSE OF DEATH

A post-mortem examination conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Blum’s death was a direct result of injuries sustained in the crash. Both the driver and passenger of the Rav4 were rushed to a nearby hospital with critical injuries, while the driver of the Forte emerged unscathed from the ordeal.
