NEW PALTZ, N.Y. — The Police Chiefs Association of Ulster County has announced that they will be honouring law enforcement personnel and civilians for their exceptional efforts at an upcoming awards banquet. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 22, at Novella’s New Paltz, located at 2 Terwilliger Lane.

The evening will kick off with a ceremonial “posting of colors” by the Honor Guard and various Ulster County law enforcement agencies, followed by a stirring performance of bagpipes and drums by retired Master Sgt. William Hennessey of the U.S. Army Reserve and retired Police Officer Duke Bunce of the Town of New Paltz Police.

Vice President of the Chiefs Association, Town Of Ulster Police Chief Kyle Berardi, will deliver the opening message, followed by the President’s Message by Scott W. Schaffrick, Rosendale Police chief and president of the Police Chiefs Association.

Schaffrick expressed his gratitude in a prepared statement, saying, “As the President of the Police Chief’s Association of Ulster County, I would like to personally express my sincerest gratitude and thankfulness for the actions of the officers, deputies, and troopers who are here to be honored tonight.”

Chaplain Heinrich Arnold of the Police Chiefs Association will then deliver the invocation, after which guests will enjoy a dinner before the awards ceremony commences.

Awards will be presented to several deserving individuals for their outstanding service, with summaries of their actions provided by Berardi. Here are some of the award recipients and the reasons for their well-deserved honours:

New York State Police Investigator Joseph Manner, Violent Gang Narcotics Enforcement Team
Manner was commended for his successful execution of search warrants, resulting in the seizure of firearms and narcotics, contributing significantly to the fight against crime.

Ulster Police Department Detective Sgt. Cheryl Benjamin
Benjamin’s dedication to solving a complex case involving a juvenile’s death led to the indictment of two adults responsible for the tragic incident.

Ulster County Sheriff’s Office Detective Gary Wells
Wells’ relentless efforts in investigating cases of sexual abuse led to the arrest and indictment of a dangerous predator.

Troopers John Henriksen and Logan O’Connor, New York State Police Kingston
Henriksen and O’Connor were recognised for their vigilance in detecting illegal firearms and narcotics during traffic stops, leading to successful arrests.

Officer Caelin Fagerstrom, Rosendale Police Department; and Officer Ralph Leiter & K-9 Cruise, Ulster Police Department
Fagerstrom and Leiter with K-9 Cruise were honoured for their collaborative efforts that resulted in the seizure of narcotics, an illegal gun, and cash during a traffic stop.

Ulster Police, Kingston Police, New York State Police, Ulster County District Attorney’s Office
This dedicated team of law enforcement agencies worked together to safely locate a missing juvenile and apprehend a dangerous individual barricaded in a motel room, ensuring the safety of the community.
