Gunfire Erupts in Waukegan, Leaving Man Wounded
A convicted felon, identified as Anthony M. Glover, 34, of Winthrop Harbor, has been charged after allegedly returning fire on a vehicle in Waukegan. Prosecutors claim that Glover exchanged gunfire with a gunman who shot at his car, resulting in a man being wounded in the crossfire.
Details of the Incident
The incident unfolded on December 3 when the Waukegan police Department responded to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Sunset Avenue and McAree Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the driver of the vehicle, which was carrying three individuals, had sustained gunshot wounds and was in need of urgent medical attention.
Scene of the Crime
According to Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Vukovich, the shooting took place on Sunset Avenue, east of Northern Avenue. Evidence at the scene, including 15 shell casings from two different firearms, indicated a violent confrontation had occurred.
Video Surveillance
Video footage from the area revealed that two vehicles were involved in the shooting. Glover, the victim, and another individual left the C.Y.O.C. Bar and Lounge in Waukegan and entered a silver Chevrolet Malibu. Shortly thereafter, three other men exited the bar and entered a black Dodge Charger.
Exchange of Gunfire
As the Dodge and Chevrolet drove eastbound on Sunset Avenue, a passenger in the Dodge began firing shots at the Chevrolet. Vukovich identified the gunman as Jadario Jackson, 26, of Waukegan. In response, the front seat passenger of the Chevrolet returned fire, leading to a dangerous exchange of gunfire on a public street.
Arrest and Charges
Subsequent laboratory testing revealed that the firearm recovered at the scene contained DNA from Glover. He was arrested and charged with armed habitual criminal, aggravated discharge of a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, and two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Jackson had already been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and multiple weapon offenses.
Legal Proceedings
During questioning, Glover reportedly made incriminating statements, acknowledging his criminal history and the severity of the charges he faced. Vukovich described Glover as a violent offender with a disregard for human life, highlighting his extensive criminal record, which includes prior convictions for unlawful possession of firearms and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
