Three Women Sue El Monte Union High School District for Alleged Sexual Abuse

Three brave women have come forward to sue the El Monte Union High School District, alleging that they were victims of sexual abuse during their time as students at Rosemead High School. The women, identified as Jane C.H. Doe, Jane J.L. Doe, and Jane D.C. Doe, are seeking justice and accountability for the alleged misconduct they experienced at the hands of various EMUHSD staff members.

Seeking Justice and Accountability

During a press conference, the women shared their harrowing experiences and detailed the abuse they suffered while attending Rosemead High School approximately 15 years ago. Jane J.L. Doe, for instance, revealed that her tennis coach took advantage of her when she was just 14 years old, going to great lengths to keep their relationship a secret from her family. The women are now calling on the California Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Education to investigate what they describe as “rampant sexual abuse” within the school and district.

Fighting Against Fear and Intimidation

Despite the challenges and fear of not being believed, the women decided to come forward and file the lawsuit in the hopes of preventing similar incidents from happening to other students. Jane C.H. Doe expressed the difficulties of speaking out, stating, “The threats that you won’t be believed is what really stops, at least, like, myself, and a few others that I’ve talked to, really stopped us from saying anything.” Their attorney, Michael Carrillo, emphasized that this issue has persisted for decades within the district, describing it as a “safe haven for predators and perpetrators.”

District Responds to Allegations

In response to the lawsuit, the El Monte Union High School District issued a statement reaffirming their commitment to student safety and well-being. They emphasized that they do not tolerate any behavior that compromises these values and stated that they take swift action when student safety is at risk. The district also mentioned that they have not yet been served with the lawsuit and therefore cannot comment on pending litigation.

Continuing the Fight for Justice

The attorneys representing the women acknowledge that there may be more former students who have been victims of abuse but have not yet come forward. They urge anyone with information or experiences of misconduct to speak up and seek justice. Despite the challenges and obstacles they may face, the women are determined to hold the district accountable and ensure that steps are taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
