Tragic Death After Consuming Shawarma in Mumbai

In a distressing turn of events, a 19-year-old man named Prathamesh Bhokse tragically passed away after consuming chicken shawarma purchased from a stall in the Trombay area of Mumbai. The young man bought the food item from the stall of the accused vendors, Anand Kamble and Ahmed Sheikh, on May 3. Little did he know that this seemingly harmless meal would lead to such a devastating outcome.

Onset of Symptoms and Medical Treatment

The day after consuming the shawarma, Bhokse started experiencing severe stomach ache and vomiting. Concerned for his health, he sought medical treatment at a municipal hospital nearby on May 4. However, his condition did not improve, prompting his family to rush him to the civic-run KEM Hospital on May 5. Despite the doctor’s initial treatment, Bhokse’s health continued to deteriorate.

Admission to KEM Hospital

On Sunday evening, as Bhokse’s symptoms worsened, he was once again taken to the KEM Hospital. After a thorough examination, the doctors decided to admit him for further observation and treatment. It was at this point that the hospital authorities became suspicious of the food he had consumed and reported the matter to the police. An FIR was registered against unidentified persons under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Legal Action and Arrest of Vendors

Tragically, despite the best efforts of the medical staff, Bhokse succumbed to his illness on Monday. The police wasted no time in taking action and arrested the two vendors, Anand Kamble and Ahmed Sheikh. They were booked under various sections of the IPC, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The authorities are now conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of Bhokse’s death and hold those responsible accountable.

The untimely death of Prathamesh Bhokse has sparked outrage in the local community, raising concerns about food safety and hygiene standards at street food stalls. Residents are calling for stricter regulations and regular inspections to prevent similar incidents in the future. The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of ensuring the quality and safety of the food we consume.
