A Las Vegas man was taken into custody after a series of illegal shooting incidents and a standoff with officers last week near the 215 and Flamingo Road, causing a commotion that left local gym goers on edge. The events unfolded on Wednesday, May 1 when Las Vegas Metro police responded to a home near Rainbow Boulevard and Blue Diamond Road following reports of gunfire. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing a white Honda speeding away, as well as a black Infinity with Utah plates circling the area. The police were informed that Joshua Damian had fired several shots into the air with a handgun during an argument with his girlfriend.
Damian’s girlfriend revealed to officers that their relationship had soured over the past two weeks, with Damian displaying erratic behavior after losing his job and allegedly using marijuana. On the day of the incident, she said Damian became agitated, fired his rifle into the air, and proceeded to vandalize their kitchen. Fearing for her safety, she called 911, prompting Damian to leave with a friend.
Later that day, a shooting was reported at a gym near Flamingo Road and the 215, where two individuals in a white sedan fired rounds into the air with a handgun before parking near the gym entrance. The driver, identified as Aaron Tainatongo, cooperated with police and revealed that Damian had asked for a ride to the gym but did not disclose his possession of a firearm. Damian, on the other hand, defied police orders during a standoff, at one point exiting the vehicle in his underwear and daring officers to shoot him. After a tense confrontation, Damian eventually surrendered to the authorities.
During the investigation, officers recovered a Glock handgun, an extended Glock magazine, an AR pistol, and 9mm cartridge cases from the scene. Damian now faces numerous charges, including discharging a firearm where a person might be endangered and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.
