like a maze in itself. It was during this process of reviewing footage that I noticed a striking resemblance between a woman caught on camera and the background figure in the capitol photograph. It was then that I realised that Natasha Barnes, the woman I had spoken to at the hardware store fire, was in fact The Cipher. I felt a rush of excitement and fear at the same time, knowing that I was now a part of something much bigger than just reporting on fires.

15th March 2023 – Maze Bank Arena Fire

The next major incident involving The Cipher occurred on the 15th of March at the Maze Bank Arena. This was perhaps one of the most high-profile locations to be targeted by Barnes, with the arena being a popular spot for concerts and events. LSFD received a call at around 9:45PM reporting a fire on the roof of the building. The fire spread quickly due to the materials on the roof, causing significant damage to the structure.

Once again, a letter was left at the scene by The Cipher, this time in a more cryptic tone. She alluded to the fact that she was watching the chaos unfold from a distance and that she was enjoying the spectacle. The letter contained a cipher code that read ‘THE SHOW MUST GO ON’, a chilling message considering the nature of the location.

It was during this incident that I found myself face to face with Barnes for the second time. As I was filming the fire from a safe distance, I spotted her in the crowd of onlookers, watching with a cold, detached expression. It sent shivers down my spine to know that she was so close, yet so far out of reach.

26th April 2023 – The Great Ocean Highway Incident

The final major incident involving The Cipher took place on the 26th of April on the Great Ocean Highway. A series of cars were set ablaze in what appeared to be a coordinated attack. LSFD responded to multiple calls reporting the fires and worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames before they could spread further.

This time, there was no letter left at the scene by The Cipher. It seemed as though she had grown tired of leaving clues and messages, knowing that the authorities were closing in on her. However, the signature sparker devices were found at the scene, confirming her involvement in the arson.

The Capture of Natasha Barnes

On the 4th of May 2024, SANFIRE finally managed to apprehend Natasha Barnes after a lengthy investigation. She was taken into a 48-hour hold for questioning before being formally arrested on the 6th of May. During her interrogation, Barnes remained defiant, refusing to provide a motive for her actions and simply stating that she enjoyed the thrill of the game.

As I reflect on my personal journey through The Cipher’s maze, I can’t help but feel a sense of both relief and unease. While I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of solving the case, I am also acutely aware of the darkness that exists within individuals like Barnes. The Cipher may have been caught, but there are countless others out there who may be plotting their own twisted games.

In conclusion, the case of The Cipher serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that lurk in the shadows and the importance of remaining vigilant in the face of such threats. It is my hope that by sharing my experiences, others may be inspired to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. Together, we can work towards a safer and more secure future for all..
