San Jose police Officers Shot While Responding to Domestic Violence Call

In a recent incident in South San Jose, two San Jose police officers were shot while responding to a domestic violence call at a local hotel. The officers, identified as Officer Jamie Arredondo and Officer Joseph Desroches, were responding to a call from a woman who had a restraining order against a man who was headed to the Extended Stay America on San Ignacio Avenue.

Details of the Incident

When the officers arrived at the hotel, the suspect, Kevin Briones, was not present. However, he later showed up and a disturbance was reported to the police dispatchers. Desroches and Arredondo encountered Briones in a hallway of the hotel and ordered him to stop. Despite their commands, Briones reached into a duffel bag and pulled out a 9mm pistol, shooting at the officers and hitting them both.

Brave Actions Taken by the Officers

In a display of bravery, the officers returned fire and hit Briones, who then attempted to flee by jumping through a third-story window. He was later found at a neighboring hotel and arrested. Arredondo was hit multiple times during the incident, and Desroches pulled him to safety, applying a tourniquet to his wounds before realizing he had also been injured.

Recovery and Previous Incidents

Officer Arredondo underwent a second surgery without complications and is in stable condition. Officer Desroches, who has 3½ years with the SJPD, was treated for a graze wound and released from the hospital. This incident marks the first time San Jose police officers have been shot in the line of duty since a previous incident in August.

Community Support and Gratitude

The San Jose community has rallied behind the injured officers, offering support and gratitude for their bravery in the face of danger. The San Jose Police Officers’ Association has also released a statement, expressing their appreciation for the officers’ dedication to protecting the community.
