William was born on July 15, 1941, in Clifton Springs, New York, to the late John and Mary McGory. He was the youngest of five children and grew up surrounded by a large, loving family. William was a graduate of Clifton Springs High School, where he excelled academically and athletically, earning several awards for his achievements on the basketball court.

After high school, William went on to serve in the United States Army, where he proudly defended his country during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1965 and returned home to Clifton Springs, where he began his career as a dedicated employee at the local factory.

William was a hard worker who took great pride in his job, always going above and beyond to support his family and provide for their needs. He was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to help others in any way he could.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, William was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He married his high school sweetheart, Sarah, in 1968, and together they raised three children: William Jr., Jennifer, and Michael. William was a loving and supportive father who always put his family first, attending every school play, soccer game, and dance recital to cheer on his children.

As a grandfather, William was adored by his six grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Papa.” He loved spending time with them, whether it was playing catch in the backyard, sharing stories about his childhood, or teaching them how to fish at the nearby lake. William’s family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

In his free time, William enjoyed fishing, gardening, and watching sports, especially his favorite basketball team, the Syracuse Orange. He was a die-hard fan who never missed a game, and he passed down his love of sports to his children and grandchildren.

William will be remembered for his warm smile, generous spirit, and unwavering love for his family. He touched the lives of all who knew him and will be deeply missed by his loved ones and the Clifton Springs community.

A celebration of William’s life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Clifton Springs Community Center. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America in William’s memory.

William Charles McGory, Sr., may have passed away, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who made a lasting impact on everyone he met.
