Man Faces Multiple Charges After Crash in Front of School

A Greensboro man, Alton Johnny Bright Jr., 28, is facing multiple charges after a crash in front of Vandalia Christian School on Tuesday night. The incident unfolded when a deputy with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Pleasant Garden Road near Industrial Avenue around 11:17 p.m.

High-Speed Chase Ends in Crash

Bright Jr. accelerated to a high rate of speed and drove away from the deputy, leading to a chase that lasted for about a mile. The pursuit came to a dramatic end when Bright Jr.’s vehicle crashed in front of the school. Despite the crash, Bright Jr. managed to flee the scene, leaving deputies to provide aid to the individuals in the crashed vehicle.

Charges Against Bright Jr.

Warrants were issued for Bright Jr. on a number of charges, including possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of marijuana, careless and reckless driving, and speeding. He was arrested the following day and additional charges of felony hit-and-run with serious injury and possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver a Schedule III controlled substance were added.

Judicial Proceedings and Detainment

Bright Jr. was held with no bond at the Greensboro Detention Center and made his first court appearance on Thursday where he was granted a $100,000 secured bond. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, with authorities working to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the crash and Bright Jr.’s actions.
