**Man Charged After Gun Fired at police on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation**

In a startling turn of events on the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation, a 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged after a gun was fired at officers by a second man during a police operation. The incident unfolded on Wednesday morning as members of the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Prince Albert warrant enforcement and suppression team (WEST) were on a mission to locate and apprehend 42-year-old Prentice Bowman, who was wanted on multiple warrants issued by the Ahtahkakoop RCMP.

**Incident Details**

The warrants against Bowman were in connection to a series of incidents spanning the past four months, including charges of uttering threats, assault with a weapon, and other firearms-related offences. As the officers from Prince Albert WEST were conducting their operation, they spotted two adult males walking in a residential area on the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation, with one of them positively identified as Prentice Bowman.

As they moved in to arrest Bowman, a shocking turn of events unfolded as the second man discharged a firearm at the officers. In a swift response, one of the officers returned fire. Miraculously, no physical injuries were reported by either the police officers or the suspects involved. While Prentice Bowman was apprehended at the scene, the second adult male managed to flee the area.

**Police Response and Arrest**

Following the incident, a massive police operation was launched involving multiple units including the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Ahtahkakoop Detachment, Prince Albert WEST, the critical incident response team, police dog services, the crime reduction team, and Saskatoon Police Service air services. Later in the day, the suspect was located within close proximity on the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation, and a firearm along with ammunition was seized by the authorities.

Subsequently, Sheldon Badger, aged 24, has been charged with attempted murder, two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, and possession of a firearm without a licence. Badger made an appearance in court on Thursday and currently remains in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Friday at the Prince Albert provincial court.

**Ongoing Investigation**

The investigation into the incident has been taken over by the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Prince Albert general investigation section (GIS), with continued support from Prince Albert WEST and the Prince Albert forensic identification section. At this time, no charges are being considered against Prentice Bowman in relation to the shooting incident. He remains in custody on the existing warrants issued against him.
