Tragic Shooting Incident Unfolds on Christmas Eve
On Dec. 24, a routine traffic stop turned into a tragic shooting incident on Hwy 36 near mile marker 42. Three officers from the Colorado State Patrol and Boulder Country Sheriff’s Office approached a car parked on the side of the road and made a shocking discovery – a bullet hole in the window of the vehicle. Little did they know, they were about to be faced with a life-threatening situation.
Encounter with Efrain Inda
The man inside the car was later identified as Efrain Inda. As the officers asked Inda to step out of the car, a series of events unfolded that would lead to a fatal outcome. Inda complied at first, but then inexplicably pulled his hands back inside the car, raising suspicions among the officers. When he finally exited the vehicle, he was holding a handgun in one hand and his cell phone in the other, engaged in a conversation with someone on the phone.

The situation took a turn for the worse when Inda refused to move away from his gun, despite repeated requests from the officers. In an attempt to disarm him, the officers fired non-lethal rounds, hoping to incapacitate him. However, Inda grabbed his gun again and pointed it at the officers, prompting them to take lethal action in self-defence. Tragically, Inda was pronounced dead at the scene.
