A woman has been arrested in Salisbury after allegedly falsifying reports of sexual assault on multiple occasions. Misty Johnson Bruton, aged 38, was charged after leaving the hospital against medical advice and failing to complete a forensic examination.

The incident began when deputies responded to a 911 hangup at a home on Fox Run Road. The resident claimed to have seen two women arguing in her front yard before they walked towards another house in the same area. Upon arriving at the second house, officers encountered Bruton, who stated she had been assaulted earlier that day but denied calling 911. When deputies attempted to speak with her, Bruton refused to cooperate and even threatened to sue one of the officers.

Following the encounter, an arrest warrant was issued for Bruton on charges of misuse of 911. However, when deputies investigated a separate report of rape filed by Bruton earlier in the day, they discovered that she had left the hospital without completing the forensic examination. This was the fourth time Bruton had reported an assault and failed to cooperate with investigations.

As a result, an additional arrest warrant was obtained for Bruton, this time for filing a false report to the police radio broadcasting station. She has since been placed in the Rowan County Detention Center.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about these incidents or who may have been a victim of a false report to come forward. They are also reminding the public of the serious consequences of making false claims, which can hinder genuine investigations and waste valuable resources.
