Baling Farm Worker Dies in Watermelon Farm Brawl
A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday night at a watermelon farm in Kuala Ketil near Baling, resulting in the death of a Myanmar national. The deceased has been identified as Kyuk Sikay, a 36-year-old worker on the farm. Reports indicate that Kyuk Sikay was involved in a violent altercation with a fellow compatriot, who managed to flee the scene with injuries.
The farm manager received a voice message via WhatsApp on the night of the incident, informing him about the brawl. However, no detailed information was provided at the time. It wasn’t until the following morning, when the manager listened to the message, that he discovered the grave outcome of the altercation. One worker had tragically lost his life, another had fled, and several other workers had also left the farm. Distressed by the news, the farm manager promptly lodged a police report.
Investigations have revealed that the brawl took place at the palm oil waste disposal area within the farm premises. Shockingly, no surveillance cameras were installed in that vicinity, making it difficult to ascertain the exact sequence of events. Kyuk Sikay’s lifeless body was found in a hole located approximately 500 meters away from the tents set up for the farm workers.
Preliminary examination of the victim’s body uncovered seven stab wounds to the front of his chest, alongside an additional stab wound to his left rib area. Further forensic investigations have indicated that Kyuk Sikay likely succumbed to his injuries within 24 hours of the incident. In an effort to bring the perpetrator to justice, tracker dog units have been deployed to conduct a thorough search.
The victim’s body has been transferred to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Star for a post-mortem examination. The case is currently being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Authorities have mobilized teams to track down and apprehend the suspect, and inspections have been carried out in the surrounding areas and nearby health clinics in an attempt to locate both the suspect and other workers who fled the scene.
