New Jersey Car Crashes: Tragic Accident Claims Lives in Hopewell
Hopewell, NJ (February 12, 2024) – A fatal accident occurred in Hopewell on the night of February 11, resulting in the loss of two lives. The incident took place on State Highway 31 between Yard Road and Woosamonsa Road near Milepost 8.8. Hopewell Township police, along with paramedics and fire crews, responded to the scene.
The collision involved a blue Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Kongmi Khu, a 32-year-old resident of Brooklyn. Khu, who had attempted to pass two vehicles in a no-passing zone, collided with a Grey Nissan Maxima traveling in the opposite direction. The Jeep’s driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at Capital Health Regional Medical Center before being released. However, Khu will face charges of Vehicular Manslaughter and other offenses.
Tragically, the accident claimed the lives of two individuals. The 59-year-old driver of the Nissan, a resident of Ewing, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Additionally, a 13-year-old male passenger in the Jeep, who was initially taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center and then transferred to Cooper University Medical Center, succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
The two backseat passengers in the Jeep, both women in their thirties from Brooklyn, were seriously injured and received treatment at St. Mary’s Hospital. Hopewell Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
