Boy Fatally Shot and Another Injured Near Cudahy School
An investigation is currently underway following a tragic shooting incident that claimed the life of a young boy and left another injured in Cudahy, California. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, outside the Ellen Ochoa Learning Center, sending shockwaves through the local community.
The shooting took place around 12:20 a.m. on Live Oak Street, just steps away from the school. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the victim who tragically lost his life at the scene was a young male, described as a juvenile. While some sources suggest he was 14 years old, this information has yet to be officially confirmed.
Another young individual, also a juvenile, was found at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound. Thankfully, this second victim was transported to the hospital and is currently in stable condition. Authorities are working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and are appealing to the public for any information that may aid their investigation.
In an unfortunate turn of events, this shooting was not an isolated incident. Two other shootings occurred overnight in Bell and the nearby community of Florence. Although authorities have stated that there is currently no evidence linking these incidents, they are not ruling out the possibility of a connection.
It is important to note that the shooting near the school is not in any way related to the institution itself. However, some parents expressed frustration on Monday morning, as they were not promptly informed about the tragic incident. Parent Carla Lopez shared her shock, stating, “I wasn’t even aware. I was coming to the front and parents were like ‘there’s a dead body, go that side’… I’m like, what? We didn’t get a message, a phone call until like 8 in the morning.”
Despite the unfortunate circumstances, the Ellen Ochoa Learning Center remained open on Monday. However, students were directed to enter the campus through alternate entrances, specifically Wilcox or Crafton avenues, as a precautionary measure.
As the investigation continues, authorities have yet to determine a motive for the shooting and have not released any descriptions of potential suspects. The local community remains on high alert, and anyone with information is urged to come forward to assist law enforcement in their efforts to bring justice to the victims and their families.
