According to authorities from the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division, Sergeant Y Ramirez and Officer C. Morales, the tragedy unfolded as Leiva was driving his black Ford F-150 pickup truck eastbound on Bissonnet Street. Approaching the intersection of South Dairy Ashford, he ran a red light, colliding with a silver Nissan Juke making a left turn onto Bissonnet.
The impact was immense, causing the Nissan to swerve over the grassy median and collide with a gray Honda CRV. Tragically, Iris Rodriguez, the driver of the Nissan, suffered fatal injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital by Houston Fire Department paramedics, where she was pronounced dead.
Leiva and his 19-year-old passenger were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Meanwhile, the 19-year-old female driver and her male passenger, both 19, in the Honda were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
