The Director-General of the NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh, confirmed Nigeria’s commitment to collaborating fully with the US agency to ensure a thorough and conclusive investigation that will enhance transport safety in both countries.
The NTSB has already identified major components of the crashed helicopter at the accident site, including electronic devices and onboard equipment. The agency conducted aerial drone mapping and documented the wreckage to facilitate a meticulous examination of the scene. All major components of the helicopter, such as the main rotor blades, engine, tail rotor, landing gear, and skids, were located and identified.
Witnesses reported seeing the helicopter engulfed in flames as it descended to the ground. The investigation will examine the airworthiness, maintenance, and structure of the crashed helicopter, with the involvement of the Federal Aviation Administration and Orbic Air LLC, the California-based charter flight operator. The BEA French Aviation Investigation Agency will serve as an accredited representative of the investigation due to France being the state of the manufacturer of the Airbus helicopter and Turbomeca engine.
Condolence visits have been made to the families of the deceased individuals by prominent figures, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Aliko Dangote, and other well-wishers.
