Inter-State Gang Arrested for Highway Robberies and Petrol Theft

The police have apprehended five members of an inter-State gang known as the ‘Parthi Gang’ of Maharashtra. The gang is allegedly involved in a series of highway robberies and stealing petrol from roadside fuel filling stations in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. The arrests took place on February 12 (Monday), and the accused were found in possession of two 12-wheeler lorries, diesel cans, hand pumps, and pipes, with a combined value of over ₹40 lakh. Additionally, ₹3.5 lakh in cash was seized from the gang members.

Further investigation led to the arrest of three individuals from Anantapur district. These individuals were charged with purchasing stolen oil stocks from the gang. Superintendent of Police K.K.N. Anburajan confirmed the identities of the ‘Parthi Gang’ members as Siva (21), Balaji Naik Wadi (40), Baba Nandu Shinde (21), Madhav Suresh Pawar (20), and Ashok Dharma Jadav (55). All of them hail from Dharashiv district in Maharashtra. The other three accused in the case, Gaddam Gangeswar (28), Gaddam Nagesh (41), and Jgadeesh (40), are residents of Anantapur district.

According to SP Anburajan, the gang members, who were previously employed as daily wagers, devised a plan to quickly accumulate wealth. Their modus operandi involved periodically hiring lorries to target petrol pumps located on the outskirts of highways in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. To carry out their crimes, the gang would park the lorries approximately 100 meters away from the targeted petrol pumps and strike during the midnight hours.

Using hand pumps, they would break open the underground oil tanks and siphon off diesel and petrol. The stolen oil was then transported in cans using the hired lorries. The gang members sold the stolen stocks to unauthorized retailers along the roadside and lorry drivers on the highways at discounted prices.

To ensure their operation remained undisturbed, the gang would threaten the petrol pump staff at knife-point if they encountered any resistance. Over the course of three years, the gang members were allegedly involved in numerous such crimes across the three States.

Acting on a series of complaints, a special party was formed to track down the gang members. The arrests were made near Sri Krishna Devaraya University on the outskirts of Anantapur. Superintendent Anburajan revealed that more arrests were imminent.

In conclusion, the police have successfully dismantled the ‘Parthi Gang’ responsible for highway robberies and petrol theft. The arrests signify a significant victory in the fight against organized crime in the region..
