Antisemitic Writings Discovered in Possession of Lakewood Church Shooter

Authorities have revealed that “antisemitic writings” were found during a search of items belonging to the shooter who opened fire on Sunday afternoon at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston. The woman responsible for the attack has been identified as 36-year-old Genesse Ivonne Moreno, who was armed with an assault-style rifle. Law enforcement officials have disclosed that the word “Palestine” was written on the weapon.

At this stage, authorities are still working to establish a motive for the shooting. However, Houston police Commander Chris Hassig has suggested that a dispute between Moreno and her ex-husband’s Jewish family may be connected to the incident. While officials have not provided specific details about the shooter’s statements during the attack, they have confirmed that Moreno used multiple aliases and had a history of mental health issues.

Disturbingly, Moreno brought her 7-year-old son with her to the church. She claimed to have a bomb, but a subsequent search of her vehicle revealed no explosive devices. Furthermore, preliminary tests conducted on chemicals found at the scene concluded that they did not pose any risk.

Records from law enforcement indicate that Moreno had been arrested on at least six occasions since 2005. Charges included unlawful carrying of a weapon, evading arrest, and assault on a public official. Additionally, she had been placed under an emergency detention order by Houston police in 2016 due to her mental health history.

One resident who lived near Moreno, Maria Scott, recalled hearing talk in the neighborhood that Moreno carried a firearm. Scott also described an encounter with Moreno a few years ago, during which the shooter confronted her about dogs being in her mother’s yard. Scott characterized Moreno’s behavior as stern and angry.

During the incident at Lakewood Church, two off-duty officers returned fire, fatally injuring Moreno. Tragically, her 7-year-old son was also shot in the head and remains in critical condition. Another individual, a 57-year-old man, was injured but has since been released from the hospital.

Authorities are currently investigating a range of possible motives, given the writing on the weapon used by Moreno. Terrorism and hate crime-related motives have not been ruled out.

Joel Osteen, the pastor of Lakewood Church, expressed his shock and offered prayers for the injured. He urged his congregation to rely on their faith to cope with the anguish caused by the tragic events.
