Victim Identified in Tragic Shooting at Hillcrest Car Wash
HOLLISTER, Calif. – In a heartbreaking turn of events, the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal shooting that took place at the Hillcrest Car Wash on Friday. The victim has been identified as Efrain Amezcua, a 48-year-old resident of Hollister. San Benito County Sheriff Eric Taylor confirmed this tragic news during an interview with KSBW.
According to the Hollister police Department, officers responded to a distress call at the car wash located on Hillcrest Road at approximately 2:20 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Amezcua with multiple injuries. Despite their best efforts to save him, Amezcua succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities have revealed that the incident began as a verbal altercation between Amezcua and the suspect, which quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. Eventually, a firearm was discharged, resulting in the fatal shooting. Witnesses at the scene were able to provide the police with information about the suspect’s vehicle, which was later traced to a residence on Mary Drive.
In an effort to apprehend the suspect, law enforcement officers and deputies swiftly arrived at the residence, ensuring the safety of those inside before urging the suspect to surrender. Ultimately, the suspect’s family members were able to convince him to turn himself in, leading to his arrest at 3:45 p.m. on Flynn Road. The suspect has been identified as Jose Angel Valdez, a 39-year-old individual who now faces murder charges. He has been booked into the San Benito County Jail.
