The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) in Ghana has launched a Christmas campaign urging drivers to prioritize safety and reduce their speed on the roads. The campaign comes in response to the alarming statistics that show over 60% of fatal crashes in the country are caused by speeding.

The Director-General of NRSA, David Osafo Adonteng, emphasized the dangers of speeding and highlighted its role in the high number of road accidents. Adonteng stated that speeding is a major contributing factor to fatal crashes and called for a change in behavior among drivers. The campaign aims to create awareness about the importance of adhering to speed limits and adopting responsible driving habits.

The NRSA’s campaign comes at a crucial time as the Christmas season sees a significant increase in road traffic due to people traveling to be with their families and loved ones. With more vehicles on the road, the risk of accidents also rises. By focusing on speed reduction, the NRSA hopes to prevent unnecessary loss of lives and reduce the number of road accidents during this festive period.

The campaign encourages drivers to prioritize safety over speed and to be mindful of their own lives and the lives of others on the road. Adonteng urged drivers to take responsibility for their actions and to consider the potential consequences of their choices. He emphasized the importance of obeying speed limits and practicing defensive driving techniques to ensure a safer road environment for everyone.

The NRSA’s Christmas campaign is a reminder that road safety is a collective responsibility and that everyone has a role to play in reducing the number of accidents on the roads. By raising awareness and urging drivers to prioritize safety, the NRSA hopes to create a positive change in driver behavior and ultimately save lives.

As the holiday season approaches, it is crucial for drivers in Ghana to heed the NRSA’s message and make a conscious effort to slow down and drive safely. By doing so, they can contribute to a safer and happier Christmas for all..
