A 72-year-old man named John Dennis was killed in a car accident while cycling in regional South Australia. The man was hit by a car while riding alone behind his cycling group. The driver of the car, a 30-year-old man, is being questioned by the police. This is not the first fatal accident involving Dennis, as he was previously injured in a truck collision in 2016. The investigation is ongoing.

Risden Park grandfather John Dennis, 72, tragically lost his life while cycling with friends in regional South Australia. The incident occurred on Abbatoirs Rd in Port Pirie South, more than 200km north of Adelaide. Dennis, a member of the Port Pirie Cycling Club, was on his usual Tuesday morning ride when he decided to ride alone and dropped back behind the group.

At around 9.30am, Dennis was hit by a ute on the road, which has a speed limit of 110km/h. The impact of the crash was severe, smashing the car windscreen and damaging the bonnet. Unfortunately, Dennis succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the ute, a 30-year-old man from Port Pirie West, was unharmed in the accident. However, he is currently being questioned by the police as part of their investigation into the incident. As a result, the road between Spencer Hwy and Waits Rd remains closed.

This is not the first time that Dennis has been involved in a fatal cycling accident. In 2016, he was seriously injured when a truck driver struck a group of cyclists in the Port Pirie suburb of Solomontown. Tragically, his friend and fellow cycling club member Stephen Eberhard, 61, lost his life in that incident, while another cyclist was also seriously injured.

The loss of John Dennis has deeply saddened the community, especially his family, friends, and fellow cyclists. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to be vigilant and considerate towards cyclists.

In the wake of this tragedy, it is hoped that measures will be taken to improve cycling safety in the area, such as the implementation of dedicated cycling lanes and increased awareness campaigns. The loss of one life is already one too many, and it is essential that steps are taken to prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future..
