Dennis, a member of the Port Pirie Cycling Club, was on his usual Tuesday morning ride when he decided to ride alone and dropped back behind the group.
At around 9.30am, Dennis was hit by a ute on the road, which has a speed limit of 110km/h. The impact of the crash was severe, smashing the car windscreen and damaging the bonnet. Unfortunately, Dennis succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The driver of the ute, a 30-year-old man from Port Pirie West, was unharmed in the accident. However, he is currently being questioned by the police as part of their investigation into the incident. As a result, the road between Spencer Hwy and Waits Rd remains closed.

In 2016, he was seriously injured when a truck driver struck a group of cyclists in the Port Pirie suburb of Solomontown.
