Erika Mims, an Omaha woman, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder for allegedly killing two men and injuring another in a series of shootings since March 2022. Mims is also facing multiple other felony charges. The motive is believed to be money.

An Omaha woman, Erika Mims, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder for her alleged involvement in a series of shootings that occurred since March 2022. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office announced her arrest and the charges on Monday.

Mims, who is 41 years old, is facing 11 felony charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, for the deaths of Lamar Nedd in August 2022 and Laron Hodges in February 2023. She is also accused of shooting and injuring Ronald Townsend in March 2022. According to Captain Eric Sellers of the Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigations Bureau, Mims knew all three men previously and the motive for the killings is believed to be money.

In addition to the murder charges, Mims is also charged with evidence tampering, unlawful possession of a firearm, use of a gun to commit a felony, and attempted first-degree assault. She has been in custody at the Douglas County Jail since March on unrelated charges of violating probation and possessing a firearm as a felon.

The investigation into the killings is ongoing, but authorities credit a collaborative effort between the Sheriff’s Office, Omaha Police Department, Douglas County Attorney’s Office, and federal agencies for helping to bring a close to the complex case.

Mims became a person of interest early on in the investigation, as she was identified as an acquaintance of both Nedd and Hodges. Investigators believe that her Omaha home was the scene of Hodges’ murder. During a search of her home in March, authorities found her in possession of a firearm, which she was prohibited from having due to a previous felony conviction.

While there is currently no information linking Mims to any other homicides or shootings, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Omaha Police Department are reviewing cases to determine if there are any possible ties.

As the investigation continues, the arrest of Erika Mims brings some closure to the families of the victims and the Omaha community. The authorities are working diligently to ensure justice is served and to bring an end to this violent spree of shootings in the area..
