DALLAS – A landlord in Dallas has been arrested after shooting and killing his tenant, in a shocking incident that unfolded on Monday. Damien Walker, aged 45, is currently being held at the Dallas County Jail, facing a murder charge. The victim, identified as 51-year-old Absolom Cobbs, had moved out of the property approximately two years ago but was residing there at the time of the deadly shooting.

The crime scene, located on Denley Drive in South Dallas, still bears the remnants of the police tape that was used to cordon off the area. Inside the property, law enforcement officials determined that Walker had fatally shot Cobbs. Public records indicate that Walker is the owner of the house and had been renting it out to tenants.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by FOX 4, Walker informed the police that he had gone to the property shortly before noon on Monday with the intention of telling Cobbs to vacate the premises. Walker suspected that Cobbs was involved in drug dealing activities at the location. The court documents also reveal that it was Walker who made the 911 call, admitting to shooting Cobbs multiple times.

During the call, Walker informed the authorities that he would leave the scene and drive back to his residence on Trojan Street, which is approximately four miles away, to await the arrival of the officers. Walker was subsequently apprehended by the police.

In an interview with investigators, Walker stated that he was uncertain whether Cobbs had been residing at the property, but he was aware that the person renting the house had allowed Cobbs to stay there. Walker claimed that Cobbs initiated physical contact with him, prompting him to push Cobbs away. It was at this point that Walker drew his firearm and fired a single shot at Cobbs.

Walker further alleged that he fired several more shots at Cobbs while he was on the ground because Cobbs appeared to be searching for something and Walker believed that Cobbs may have been reaching for a weapon. However, Walker admitted that he never actually saw Cobbs in possession of a weapon at any point.

During the investigation, detectives discovered a tan firearm in a separate room within the house. However, no weapons were found in the room where Cobbs was shot. Walker has been charged with murder and is currently being held on a $500,000 bond. It is worth noting that Walker has no prior criminal record.

Records indicate that Cobbs has previously been arrested for felony and misdemeanor drug offenses, although no charges related to drug distribution have been filed against him. The arrest affidavit reveals that, at the time of the shooting, Walker’s girlfriend was waiting outside the property in a car. Surveillance footage captured Walker exiting the house and getting into the vehicle with his girlfriend after eight gunshots were heard from inside the residence.

This tragic incident has left the community in shock, as they grapple with the senseless loss of life. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working diligently to gather all the necessary evidence to ensure a fair and just legal process..
