The identity of the man who lost his life in a devastating head-on traffic crash near Dos Picos County Park in Ramona has been released by authorities.
James Alvarez, a 23-year-old resident of Ramona, was driving his 2013 Volkswagen Jetta northbound on state Route 67 in the early hours of Labor Day, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the county Medical Examiner’s Office.
Tragically, Alvarez crossed the double yellow lines, venturing into the opposing traffic lane, directly into the path of a 2019 Toyota Camry heading southbound, CHP Officer Jared Grieshaber stated.
The head-on collision occurred near Boortz Lane, resulting in immediate fatality for Alvarez.
The Camry driver, a 20-year-old woman from Ramona, sustained injuries that were deemed non-life-threatening and was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention, Grieshaber added.
