Brutally Injured Dog Found Abandoned on Florida Highway

Deerfield Beach, Fla. – A dog is currently undergoing treatment at an animal hospital in Deerfield Beach after being discovered badly injured. The dog was found stabbed and abandoned on the side of the road on Interstate 595 in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday night.

Animal rescue crews from Local 10 News responded to the distressing incident. Based on their observations, they believe the dog was subjected to multiple stabbing and slashing attacks before being dumped and left to die along the 595-exit ramp onto Federal Highway.

The injured canine, identified as Zeus, a 1 to 2-year-old male Pitbull mix, was rushed to Deer Run Animal Hospital in Deerfield Beach. Upon arrival, Zeus was found bleeding profusely from a deep chest cavity wound, which appeared to be an apparent stab wound.

Kay Khaleel, a compassionate individual who discovered Zeus on the side of the road, immediately took him to Deer Run Animal Hospital. The veterinary team at the hospital performed extensive surgery to save Zeus’ life.

Khaleel expressed her certainty that Zeus had not been hit by a car but had been subjected to abuse at the hands of another person. “It looked like someone threw him out and just sliced him. First, I thought he got hit by a car, but I think he got sliced by somebody,” she said.

Dr. Lance Weidenbaum, one of the veterinarians involved in Zeus’ surgery, expressed satisfaction with the outcome and remains hopeful for Zeus’ recovery. “I’m happy with the surgery, how he’s gonna respond to the surgery. I would say his prognosis is fair to good,” he stated.

While it remains unconfirmed whether the injuries were a result of animal abuse, Dr. Weidenbaum believes that Zeus may have been wounded with a knife due to the clean cut observed during surgery.

Once Zeus is released from the hospital, he will be fostered by IHeart Animal Rescue, an organization dedicated to helping animals in need. To support Zeus’ recovery and surgery expenses, IHeart Animal Rescue has launched a GoFundMe campaign. Donations can be made by clicking here.
