Kansas City, Mo. – Kansas City police are currently investigating another homicide case after a victim of an assault in August succumbed to his injuries. The incident took place at an apartment building located at 16th Street and Jackson Avenue on August 22nd, when officers responded to a reported cutting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a deceased male in the parking lot, showing signs of bodily trauma.

The victim has been identified as 59-year-old Lambert Smalls. At the time of the incident, medics rushed him to the hospital in critical condition, while the police took a suspect into custody at the scene.

Recently, the Kansas City police announced that Smalls had passed away as a result of his injuries. The medical examiner has ruled his death as a homicide. According to the police, it appears that a disturbance between Smalls and the suspect led to the fatal assault.

This incident marks the 138th homicide in Kansas City in 2023, according to statistics provided by the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD). Comparatively, by this point in 2022, the city had recorded 116 homicides. In 2020, which remains the deadliest year for Kansas City so far, the city had seen 137 homicides by this time.
