James Stanley McCollum, known to friends and family as Stan, was born on September 3, 1950, in Fort Madison, Iowa. He was the son of John and Margaret McCollum and grew up in the Fort Madison area. Stan attended Fort Madison High School, where he was a standout athlete on the football and baseball teams.

After graduating from high school, Stan went on to pursue a career in the construction industry. He was known for his hard work ethic and dedication to his craft. Stan was a skilled carpenter and took pride in his work, always striving for perfection in every project he took on.

In his free time, Stan enjoyed spending time outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and loved nothing more than spending a day out on the water with his fishing rod in hand. Stan also had a passion for gardening and took great pride in tending to his vegetable garden, which always yielded a bountiful harvest.

Stan was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary, his two children, Sarah and Michael, and his four grandchildren. Family was the most important thing to Stan, and he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones.

Those who knew Stan will remember him for his kind and generous spirit. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need and had a way of making everyone feel welcome and loved. Stan will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Stan’s life will be held at Barr Memorial Chapel in Fort Madison on Friday, June 11, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Stan’s memory.
