Two Men Arrested in Connection with Deadly Hotel Shooting in Sumter, SC
The Sumter Police Department (SPD) recently made a breakthrough in a tragic incident that shook the community. Two Wedgefield men, Tavion Melki Mickens, 19, and Toney Williams Jr., 23, were arrested in connection with the deadly shooting of two men at a hotel in Sumter.

The shooting took place at the Sleep Inn on Broad Street on August 18, where Saquan Logan, 20, and Tyriq Demari Spann, 19, were found dead. Mickens, who was charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime and two counts of murder, was apprehended in a Georgia jail after being stopped for speeding. He was then extradited to Sumter and booked on September 7 at the county detention center.
Williams, on the other hand, was arrested before Mickens for his involvement in helping cover up evidence and eluding police. He was booked on August 27 at the county detention center. Prior to their arrest, the police had offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to arrests, which is still available for any additional arrests.
