Claire McKenna was born on September 5, 1933, in Astoria, Oregon, to loving parents John and Margaret McKenna. She was the second eldest of four siblings, including her older brother Michael, and younger sisters Sarah and Emily. Claire grew up in a close-knit family and had a special bond with her sisters that lasted a lifetime.

After graduating from Astoria High School, Claire went on to attend college where she earned a degree in Education. She had a passion for teaching and spent over 30 years working as a beloved elementary school teacher in her hometown. Claire was known for her patience, kindness, and dedication to her students, many of whom remembered her fondly even years after they had left her classroom.

In addition to her career in education, Claire was also a devoted sister, aunt, and great-aunt. She was always there for her family, offering support, love, and guidance whenever they needed it. Claire had a special way of making each of her nieces and nephews feel loved and cherished, and they all have fond memories of spending time with her during their childhood.

Outside of her professional and family life, Claire had many hobbies and interests. She was an avid reader and could often be found with her nose buried in a book. She also enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening, and going for long walks in nature. Claire had a love for music and was known to play the piano beautifully, bringing joy to those around her with her talent.

Claire will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering faith, and her ability to always see the good in others. She touched the lives of everyone she met with her kindness and grace, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.

A celebration of Claire McKenna’s life will be held on April 20, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Astoria. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Astoria Elementary School Library in Claire’s honor.
