It is with great sadness that I write this obituary for a fictional character who tragically lost their life in the devastating events of September 11th, 2001. As a Canadian student in 9th grade, I am deeply affected by the horrors of that day, even though I did not personally know the individual who perished.

In my English class, our teacher is obsessed with 9/11 and constantly reminds us of the significance of that day in history. For our latest assignment, we were tasked with writing an obituary for a fictional person who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center. The exercise was meant to help us understand the impact of the tragedy on individual lives, and to practice our writing skills in a somber context.
As I sat down to write this obituary, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of overwhelming sadness and grief. Imagining the loss of a loved one in such a senseless act of violence is truly heartbreaking. I tried to put myself in the shoes of the family and friends of the deceased, and to convey the depth of their sorrow in my writing.
The fictional individual I chose to write about was a young woman named Sarah, who was working on the 89th floor of the North Tower when the first plane struck. Sarah was a bright and ambitious professional, with a promising career ahead of her. She was known for her kindness and generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Sarah’s family and friends were devastated by the news of her untimely death. They described her as a shining light in their lives, and spoke of her infectious laughter and warm personality. Sarah’s parents, siblings, and close friends struggled to come to terms with the fact that she was taken from them so suddenly and violently.

In my obituary, I tried to capture the essence of Sarah’s spirit and the impact of her loss on those who knew her best. Writing this obituary was a challenging and emotional experience for me.
