Ron Yeats was born on November 15, 1937, in Aberdeen, Scotland. He began his football career at the age of 16, playing for Dundee United before moving on to play for Tranmere Rovers. It was during his time at Tranmere that he caught the eye of Liverpool manager Bill Shankly, who signed him for the club in 1961.
Yeats quickly became an integral part of the Liverpool team, known for his towering presence on the pitch and his leadership skills. In 1963, Shankly appointed Yeats as captain of the team, a role he would hold for seven years. Under Yeats’ captaincy, Liverpool experienced great success, winning the First Division title in 1964 and 1966.
However, Yeats’ greatest achievement came in 1965 when he led Liverpool to victory in the FA Cup final against Leeds United. This was the first time in the club’s history that they had won the prestigious trophy, and Yeats’ leadership on the field was instrumental in securing the victory.
