Police Shooting in Southeast D.C.: What Happened?
Early Sunday morning in Southeast Washington, D.C., tragedy struck as a fatal shooting involving police unfolded. The incident took place around 5:30 a.m. on September 1 in the 2500 block of Marion Barry Avenue Southeast. Officers responded to a report of a vehicle crash, only to find a vehicle that had collided with a commercial building, causing minor damage. Inside the vehicle was the driver, 26-year-old Justin Robinson from Southeast D.C., who was unresponsive with a visible firearm.

As more officers arrived on the scene, Robinson began to move inside the vehicle. It was then that officers noticed he was armed and issued commands for him to drop the weapon. Despite the immediate efforts of DC Fire and EMS, Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene.
In line with department policy, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave. The incident is now under investigation by the MPD’s Internal Affairs Division’s Force Investigations Team, with an independent review being conducted by the United States Attorney’s Office.
