The whole ordeal began when 37-year-old Kyle E. Higgins of Topeka passed away. It all started when police responded to an aggravated robbery of a vehicle near SW 29th and Macvicar Avenue in Topeka. Turns out, the vehicle was stolen by individuals who were actually known to the owner, and to make matters worse, there was a child inside. Yikes!
Thankfully, the child was quickly found safe and sound in the 3200 block of SW Central Park and taken into police custody. Phew! But the drama didn’t end there. The stolen vehicle was later located near SE 35th and Indiana in Topeka, leading to a wild pursuit that ended with the vehicle crashing into a pole near SE 29th and Minnesota.
Two suspects fled from the crash, but officers managed to track them down and take them into custody. Both individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were promptly taken to a local hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, a report came in about an unresponsive man, later identified as Higgins, in the 2200 block of SE 29th Street. Sadly, he didn’t make it.
As a result of the investigation, Lorenzo A. Pattmon III, 21, and Rammelo H. Boatwright, 24, both of Topeka, were arrested and now face a slew of charges including murder, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, and aggravated child endangerment.
