Suspect Charged in 2014 Murder Case After Confessing to Relative

The suspect, Donny Soundara Daosavanh, 37, is facing charges of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon in the 184th State District Court.

Daosavanh stands accused of killing his mother, Amnoun Sayphanya, who was believed to be 60 at the time of her death. Shockingly, her body has never been recovered. It wasn’t until October of 2017 that the Houston Police Department Homicide Division received information that Daosavanh had confessed to a relative about killing his mother. He later confessed to homicide investigators that he beat his mother to death with a hammer, kept her body in the bathtub for a week, wrapped it in a comforter, and buried it in an unknown location.

Despite extensive efforts to locate Sayphanya’s body or any physical evidence of the homicide, all attempts have been unsuccessful. Additional investigation provided sufficient evidence to corroborate the confession and establish that the murder took place in August 2014 inside the apartment the mother and son shared at 827 Oak Street.

Daosavanh was arrested on August 1 after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He is currently being held on a $500,000 bond in the Harris County Jail. The remains of Sayphanya have still not been recovered.
