Death – Obituary- Cause of Death News : Neil Allan Long, a beloved member of the Fort Madison community, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the age of 73. He was surrounded by his family at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center when he peacefully transitioned from this life to the next.

Neil was born on March 5, 1951, in Fort Madison, Iowa, to the late Robert and Margaret Long. He grew up in Fort Madison and attended Fort Madison High School, where he was known for his athleticism and friendly demeanor. After graduating, Neil went on to pursue a career in business, where he excelled and made a name for himself as a dedicated and hardworking professional.

Outside of his career, Neil was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was known for his kind heart, generous spirit, and unwavering loyalty to those he loved. Neil had a passion for gardening and spent many hours tending to his beautiful flowers and vegetables. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, and spending time with his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and laughter.

Neil will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 50 years, Sarah, his children, Michael (Jennifer) and Emily (David), his grandchildren, Ethan, Ava, and Sophia, and his siblings, Mary and John. He will also be remembered by his extended family, friends, and colleagues who were fortunate enough to know him.

A celebration of Neil’s life will be held at Barr Memorial Chapel on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fort Madison Community Garden in Neil’s memory.

Neil Allan Long touched the lives of many with his kindness, humor, and love. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will forever be remembered as a cherished member of the Fort Madison community. May he rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
